不同的是：DCS和PLC這兩個概念起源于不同的工業(yè)領(lǐng)域且字面定義也不同。
--DCS的字面定義是“分布式控制系統(tǒng)（distributed control system)"是從系統(tǒng)結(jié)構(gòu)上定義的。早的概念來源于石油化工行業(yè)的計算機控制（大）系統(tǒng)。連續(xù)過程控制能力很強。
--PLC的字面定義是“可編程邏輯控制器（programable logic controller)"是從功能上定義的概念。概念早指機械加工行業(yè)的計算機化邏輯控制裝置。開關(guān)量處理能力強。早的PLC系統(tǒng)較小。
--現(xiàn)代的DCS和PLC的區(qū)別已越來越小。DCS處理連續(xù)量和開關(guān)量的能力都很強。PLC處理連續(xù)量的能力也越來越大，大型PLC系統(tǒng)結(jié)構(gòu)上也是分布式的。
